It Starts with Us is a Collen Hoover’s romance novel which picks up right where her novel It Ends with us ends. While It Ends with Us leaves the readers with a heart-wrenching ending, It Starts with Us concludes with a heartwarming and a beautiful ending that everyone loves.

If you are someone, who did not read the first book, it is vital to read that book to understand the characters and the plot.

The story picks up with Lily managing her business and taking care of her daughter, Emerson. And then, she suddenly runs into her first love, Atlas Corrigan, whom she considered as her protector.

She falls for him after her divorce from her ex-husband Ryle, rekindling her old feelings. Considering Ryle’s jealousy and toxic nature, Lily hesitates and fears to get into a new relationship with Atlas. Despite her hesitations, Lily and Atlas get into a relationship.

Their love grows healthily which contrasts her toxic past relationship with Ryle. Lily gets the love she deserves, from the person she loves. Ryle is villainized in this story.

Hoover used dual POV of Lily and Atlas which reveals the clear view of their relationship. Flashbacks are used to reveal the character’s past and to give a clear understanding of each characters to the readers. The author’s writing style is engaging throughout the novel, which will make the readers hooked up.

Through this book, the author reminds the readers that, no matter how deeply and truly you love someone, if they did not treat you well or value your worth, it is important to distant yourself from that toxic person.

This also shows one’s ability to overcome their past and to build their future. Societal issues such as domestic abuse, complexities of divorce are employed in this story which are thought-provoking.
